Prince J. Charles has been directing and producing independent films and videos for nearly 28 years. He has been teaching technology and media literacy for over 15 years. Prince was introduced to video production by his cousin, Anderson, who he assisted with the videography and sound engineering needs of their church. Prince attributes his interest in entering the media and production field to Anderson. Anderson later encouraged Prince to attend the same college in Warwick, Rhode Island. After college, Prince and Anderson started their own video production company named AP Media, working on various independent video productions such as: weddings, church events, music videos, documentaries, commercials, graphic design and more.
Prince is known as a media educator, videographer, music video producer, and he has produced documentary projects that promote social, cultural and personal awareness. Prince has had the opportunity to educate young people from being passive consumers of media to becoming active media producers. Prince's video production work is recognized for its positive creative approach working with his students in the community. Through an intensive hands-on curriculum, Prince has guided students through a process of self-discovery and self-representation.
Youth taught by Prince have learned how media messages influence attitudes and behavior using hands-on instruction with state-of-the-art digital media production equipment and facilities. In addition, they acquired the skills needed to create media projects that communicate their own ideas to the broader community. Prince's productions are first screened in the communities where they are produced and later broadcasted on Public Access TV Stations, festivals and the social media community. After more than a decade of collaborations working with youth, Prince and his young producers have created a wide range of productions. Many of them have been acclaimed, won prizes, featured at festivals and aired on broadcast TV networks.
Prince has trained 600+ residents/students who are enrolled in a curriculum called Tech Goes Home. Prince has taught the TGH Community program which is an adults fundamental digital skills class. Prince received an Associate Degree in Science from the New England School of Technology in 2004, and a Bachelor of Science in Digital and Recording Arts Technology in 2006. Prince is the Computer Learning Center Coordinator at Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation and resides with his family in Massachusetts.
